Sumter, SC ….. Dean Maurice Heal, age 83, beloved husband of 53 years to Lois Estelle Heal died on Sunday, July 21, 2019.
Born in Hillyard Township, IL., he was the son of the late Ernest E. Heal and Cecelia Mary Ahrling Heal. Dean joined the military service directly out of high school and became an Air Force pilot. He served in Vietnam and as a pilot had the opportunity to travel to many countries throughout the world. He retired as a Major in March 1974 after 20 years of service. After his service he worked in sales and enjoyed fishing, playing golf, traveling and attending his Air Force reunions. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving in addition to his wife Lois, are three brothers, Edward Heal and his wife Terry of Gillespie, IL, Orlin Heal of Troy, IL and Stephen Ray Heal and his wife Diane of Mooresville, NC; one daughter, Rebecca Ann Musgrove and her husband Mark of Northglenn, Colorado; three grandchildren, Sarah Macaluso and her husband Ryan, and their children Brendan and Ryder, Heather Sharp and her husband Rusty, and Jennifer Musgrove.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kieth Getz officiating. Interment will follow the service at 2:00 pm in the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 6, 2019, one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 am at St. James Lutheran Church.
