Sumter, SC…Hilde K. Eldridge, age 86, long time companion of Glenn Donald Smith, passed away quietly at her home on Sunday, October 6, 2019.
She was a native of the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) and came to the United States as the bride of John F. Eldridge.
She was employed by Campbell Soup, Kroger’s Deli and was the owner of Eldridge Fabrics. Hilde was well known for her love of cooking and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Despite never having any children of her own, she had a loving, generous and caring heart of a mother.
She leaves to cherish companion, Glenn Smith; a niece, Dorit Tronser of Mainz, Germany; a cousin, Phyllis Justason (Jimmy) of Nova Scotia, Canada; special friend Kathleen Kreklau and beloved pets, Heidi, Daisy and Miss Kitty.
In addition to her husband, John Eldridge, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Johann and Rudolph and two sisters, Erma and Emmie.
Special thanks to caregivers, Judy Loughery and Natasha Burton for their loving care in her final weeks.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Keith Getz officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, from 11:30-12:30 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
