Sumter, SC…Jerome "Jerry" Albert Baak, age 81, beloved husband of 58 years to Nancy Kneeshaw Baak, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born January 16, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of the late Albert Emil Baak and Gladys Bell Baak. Jerry retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, from the United States Air Force following a distinguished 23 year career. He was a decorated Reconnaissance Pilot, instructor and combat veteran. Jerry served as a former Flight Captain of The Order of Daedalians, the fraternal and professional order of American military pilots. Following his career in the Air Force, he served for many years as the service manager at T.A. Davis Pontiac, currently Jones Buick GMC in Sumter. Jerry has been a faithful member of St. Anne Catholic Church for many years. He will be remembered as an avid pilot and very loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his loving wife, Nancy, he is survived by; two sons, David J. Baak and his wife Mary Ann of Windsor, CO and James E. Baak and his wife Huda of Martinez, CA; two daughters, Mary E. Baak-Knapp and her husband Russ of El Dorado Hills, CA and Catherine Baak McFaddin and her husband Randy of Sumter, SC; one brother, Thomas Baak of California; one sister, Susie Baak Gentle of Arizona; five grandchildren, Bryan McDaniel, Samantha Baak, Jonathan Baak, Taylor McFaddin and Michaela Baak and three great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment will follow the service at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 3:00 pm with full military honors.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
