Sumter, SC …….. John Charles Smigelski, age 66, beloved husband of 20 years to Linda Joan Turner Smigelski, died on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born in Washington County, PA, he was the son of Betty Alberta Lucoski Smigelski and the late Joseph Smigelski. John served as a TSgt in USAF for over 20 years. After his service, he went on to work for SC Emergency Management and then transitioned into the Sumter Police Department as their IT Director. He served the Sumter community as a member of the PD for 13 years. He played keyboard with the “Bubba Band” for over 15 years. John loved putting up Christmas lights, which grew more and more extensive every year. He dressed as Santa and would pass out candy canes to the children that would come by to see the lights. He believed in paying it backwards, as he would often purchase the person’s food that was behind him in the drive thru line. John was a devoted family man. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Linda, and mother, Alberta, are his two sons: Richard Charles Smigelski and his wife Kim of CA and Thomas G. Farmer and his wife Sylvia Jo of Hartsville; one daughter, Christina Farmer and her husband Rick of Newberry and seven grandchildren: Kelsea Mathews, Riley Smigelski, Valin Smigelski, Sydney Farmer, Zachory Farmer, Aiden Farmer and Lillian Farmer.
