Sumter, SC…Athanasios “Arthur” Ouzounidis, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away on February 29, 2020 at the age of 61. He was born on March 16, 1958 in Agios Loukas, Greece. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 and went on to own and operate multiple restaurants and personified the American Dream. He always loved providing hospitality to people, whether at his home in Sumter or at Georgios Restaurant in St. George, SC. Arthur was always prepared with a witty joke, a talent passed down to his daughters, and a helping hand for those in need. He loved spending time walking his dogs, visiting his sister Georgia, and playing tavli with his brother-in-law, Christos. He was happiest celebrating religious holidays with his extended family and traveling to Greece yearly with his wife and daughters to whom he was most devoted.
He is survived by; his wife Eleni Kokotinis Ouzounidis, two daughters, Ioanna Ouzounidis Murphy and her husband Sean of Southern Pines, NC and Maria Ouzounidis of Sumter, SC; two brothers, Haralambos Ouzounidis and his wife Theodosia of Columia, SC and Antonios Ouzounidis of Columbia, SC, one sister, Georgia Dimitriadis and her husband Christos of Sumter and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ioannis Ouzounidis and Efthimia Papadopoulos Ouzounidis.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1900 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201 with Father Michael Platanis officiating followed by a burial at Evergreen Memorial Park in Sumter, SC at approximately 1:00 pm.
Visitation and Trisagion will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Bullock Funeral Home, 1190 Wilson Hall Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral or the American Heart Association, 400 Percival Road, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260-6604.
