Sumter, SC …….. Bruce Carl Ponds, age 59, beloved husband of 39 years to Kathy Elvington Ponds, died on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, he was the son of the late Roger Devoy Ponds and Irngard Eva Schewitz Ponds. Bruce was a very Godly man, he was kind, generous, caring and willing to do anything to help those who needed it. Bruce was fun loving and enjoyed pulling practical jokes, especially on his coworkers. He has worked at Eaton Cutler Hammer/ATS/ATSS for over 40 years. He was the lead man in the maintenance group at work and was very proficient in electronics. There was nothing that he could not repair or fix. Bruce was also known to be a great cook, he loved cars and boats and all animals. Bruce loved life and people but his true joy in life was spending time with his wife and best friend Kathy. He will be remembered as a very loving husband, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving in addition to his wife is: one brother, Fred Ponds and his wife April of Baltimore, MD; two brother in laws, Donald Hardee and his wife Karen and Roy Elvington and his wife Tammy, all of Sumter; a mother in law, Alice June Elvington; three nephews, Douglas Elvington, Wesley Elvington and Matthew Elvington; two nieces, Kayla R. Hardee and Jordan H. Cruz and her husband Daniel and his special cat, Sammie.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ponds.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 26, 2021, from 5:00 -7:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
The maintenance staff at Eaton Cutler Hammer/ATS/ATSS will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Due to Covid-19, the family respectfully request that all who attend will wear a face covering and practice social distancing.
