Burnice Long, Jr. Obituary

Burnice Cuthbert “B.C.” Long, Jr. beloved husband of the late Doris Burnette Long passed away on December 21, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born in Schoolfield Virginia, he was the son of B.C. and Laurene Long and was raised in Henderson, North Carolina.  He graduated from Henderson High School where he was an outstanding athlete.  He enlisted in the USAF and served honorably for 27 years.  He had tours of duty in Tule Greenland, the Phillipines, the Aleutian Islands, England, and Turkey.  He attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and was highly decorated.  His decorations included the Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with Five Oak Leaf clusters, and many more.

After retiring from the Air Force, he earned his AA and BA Degrees from St. Leo University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.  He later received his MA in Public Administration from Golden Gate University.  He taught classes at Central Carolina and St. Leo University.

He was a sports official for many years.  He was the co-founder of the Central S.C. Sports Official Association.  B.C. was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many days on various lakes and ponds.

He was an active member of Alice Drive Baptist church where he was a choir member, Sunday School teacher and served as a Deacon.  Earlier he was a member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are: his son, Bernie Long and his wife Valerie of Oxford, NC, daughter, Gwen Herod and her husband Perry of Sumter, SC and  son Larry Long and his wife Michelle, Irmo, SC;  grandchildren Amanda, Cameron and his wife Laura, and Justin Long and his wife Annabel; Matthew Herod and his wife Christi; Ben Herod and his wife Charlotte; Jacob  Herod and his wife Ashley; Lindsay, Preston, and Allison Long.  Great Grandchildren Rachel and Emma Herod, Avery Kate and Hadley Herod, and Lilly Herod. He also leaves behind an adopted son, Dr. Mike Williams of Texas.

He will always be remembered and treasured by countless numbers of friends and family.  He loved sharing Jesus with people God put in his path.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
