Sumter, SC …. David J. Schwartz, age 75, beloved husband of Diane Marie Fluent Schwartz, died April 18th, following a short illness at Prisma Health Tuomey.
Born and raised in Salamanca, NY he attended Salamanca High School. David was drafted in 1965 for service in Vietnam and was honorably discharged after one tour. He retired from the New York State Department of Transportation as a bridge crew worker. He was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church, Life Member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion. David enjoyed time with his family, serving his community, hunting, fishing, antiquing, and making people smile.
Surviving are his wife; Diane; two sons, David (Dawn), Jason (Angela) both of New York. One daughter; Jennifer (Don) of Sumter, SC; three brothers; Carl Spencer (Katie) of Montana, Ralph Schwartz (Trudy) and Steve Schwartz (Robin) both of Canada; five grandchildren; Ed Sweet (Emily) of Maine; Dylan Schwartz, Abigail Schwartz, Marijayne Schwartz, all of New York, Spencer Smith of Sumter, SC. David is also survived by several nieces and nephews and beloved extended family.
David was predeceased by his father, Ralph Schwartz; mother, Genevieve (Jenny) Rychcik Spencer; stepfather, Fred Spencer; brother, James Spencer.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at 1:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Matthew Sprinkle officiating. The interment will follow the service at 3:00 pm in the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, from 12:00-1:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to either the Vietnam Veterans Memorial or Military Women’s Memorial.
