Dewey "Ted" Jones

Sumter, SC .... Dewey Theodore “Ted” Jones, age 81, beloved husband of the late Rita Sue Campbell Jones, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born in Calhoun, TN, he was the son of the late William R. Jones and Edith Stonecopher Jones.  After high school, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam with the 7th ENGR BN 1st marine division.  He was a marine embassy guard for the American Embassy in both Saigon, Vietnam and Cypress.  Ted retired from the Marine Corps after over 21 years of service at a GYSGT.  He was a faithful member of Aldersgate UMC, the VFW Post 3034 and was an active member of the Marine Corps League.  Ted was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by a sister, Sylvia Overton of Hixon, TN; two granddaughters, Kimberly E. Webber of St. Augustine, FL and Kristina L. Straple of Charlotte, NC; a son, John Garren and his wife Shepard of Arlington, VA; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Patrick of Sumter and Charlene Grabowski of Marlton, NJ, and his faithful canine companion, Cadi.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Debby Garren Straple, two brothers, Joseph Daniel Jones and James Richard Jones and a sister, Norma Jean Jones Howard.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 12:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Laura Whitt officiating.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 11:00-12:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.

A private interment will be held in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
