Sumter, SC … Emma “Jean” Ragsdale Jackson, age 94, beloved wife of the late Phillip Wade Jackson Sr., died peacefully on Saturday morning , August 28, 2021.
Born in Honea Path, SC, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Orr Ragsdale and Grace Louise Mitchell. Orphaned at an early age,she was raised by her grandmother, Emma Kay Mitchell, in Anderson County. Jean Jackson was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served her Lord as a Sunday School teacher for 56 years. She also worked as the church’s secretary for over 20 years. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt to her family and a treasured friend to all who knew her.
Preceding her in death was her grandson Ryan Jackson Pitts, and her two siblings Floyd Evans Ragsdale, and Dorothy Ragsdale Cox.
Surviving are her three children, Phyllis Jackson Williams (Herbert), Grace Jackson McDuffie (Bob); and Phillip Wade Jackson Jr (Sandy); seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, many cherished nieces and nephews,and lifelong friends.
The family would like to especially thank Agape Hospice Service and her caregivers; Kim James, Merecedes Williams, Terri Simmons, Geraldine Anderson and Thania Rose for their faithful loving care.
A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 31, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church in Sumter, SC. Her grandson, Dr. Herbert James Williams III, will be officiating the service.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 30, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the family home, 2151 Kolb Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
The family has requested memorials be sent (in lieu of flowers) to Bethel Baptist Church.
