Sumter, SC … Esther Boyce Powell, age 97, wife of the late William H. “Billy” Powell, was promoted to glory on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at NHC of Sumter.
Born in Lee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late J. Walter Boyce and the late Mary Baker Boyce. Esther was a very active member of Alice Drive Baptist Church and a retired employee of Black River Electric Cooperative.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam Powell Moore (Henry “Butch”) of Sumter and Dixie Powell DeLoach of Lexington; five grandchildren, Jim Price (Laura) of Summerville, Beth Price Fiorito (Jeff) of Summerville, Cathy Price Cranfill (Brett) of Ft. Worth, TX, Lori Scruggs of Houston, Texas and Kelly Morris of Columbia; nine great grandchildren and a very special niece, Ginny Ward and her sons Paul (Rebekah) and Tobin of Mauldin, and a number of other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Sims; five brothers, Dolph Boyce, Ralph Boyce, Hazel Boyce, Marion Boyce and Norwood Boyce and a son in law, Tom DeLoach.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Alice Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
