Sumter, SC… Gerald Alexander Johnson, age 79, beloved husband of fifty-eight years to Joyce Lynn Johnson, died on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at his residence.
Born in Cowpens, SC, he was a son of the late Horace Alexander Johnson and Lois Mae Revels Johnson. Gerald worked in the insurance industry for over 45 years. He was such a people person that, after retirement, Gerald took a job with the Thrift Store on Broad Street just so he could socialize with the community. He never met a stranger and would try and know everything about a person after he met them. He was a very active member of Westside Baptist Church and served his church in many different capacities, including the finance committee and the academy team. He loved all animals and was a big supporter of the SPCA. Gerald’s true joy in life came from spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a very loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was survived by his two children, Tracey J. Brunson (Johnny) and Scott Johnson (Chandra) all of Sumter; two brothers, Jerry Wayne Johnson (Debra) of Valdosta, GA, and Van Johnson (Nancy) of Cape Cod, MA; five grandchildren, Jessica Cayton (Justin), Karleigh Brunson, John “Trey” Brunson (Janna), Joshua Johnson, and Timothy Johnson; and four great grandchildren, Morgan and Easton Cayton and Bailey and Wyatt Brunson.
The celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 6:30 pm at Westside Baptist Church with the Rev. Aaron Reed and Rev. Scott Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6:00-6:30 pm at the church.
