Sumter, SC …….. Hazel Anne Gramling Rowe, age 81, beloved wife of 57 years to Dr. John Elliott “Jack” Rowe III, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at her residence.
Born in Orangeburg County, she was the daughter of the late Julius Edward Gramling, Jr and Blanche Hazel Wilson Gramling. Hazel Anne graduated from the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. After graduating, she began her career as a school teacher in Charleston, SC. It was during this time that she met and married her husband, Jack. They settled in Sumter, and they joined Trinity United Methodist Church. She served for many years as a member of the Sumter Junior Welfare League, a member of the South Carolina Medical Association Women’s Auxiliary and was part of a local bridge club. Hazel Anne loved working in her yard and garden, but her true joy came from spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Jack, she is survived by; a son, John Elliott Rowe IV and his wife Alexa of Sumter; a daughter, Julie Gramling Rowe of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, William Hampton Rowe and John Elliott “J.E.” Rowe V and a brother, Julius Edward Gramling III and his wife Marie of Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joseph James officiating. Entombment will follow the service in the Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 am, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
