Hugh Jay Bryant

Sumter, SC …. Hugh Jay Bryant, age 85, beloved husband of the late Barbara Ann Martin Bryant, died on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Prisma Health Richland.

Born in Jasper, Ga, he was the son of the late Vance Bryant and Lora Matthews Bryant.  After graduating from high school, Hugh joined the United States Air Force in 1955. He served as an aircraft electrical technician and was awarded several medals for his service in Vietnam.  He retired as a CMSGT, in 1982, after over 27 years of service. 

Hugh leaves to mourn his passing; a daughter, Vickie Smith and her husband Ed; a son, Hugh Bryant and his wife Karen; three grandchildren, Jami Matula and her husband Brian, Kristi Ryan and her husband James, and Kyle Bryant, as well as three great grandchildren, Caitleigh Bryant, Dylan Ryan, and Brynn Ryan.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, T.N. Bryant and a sister, Adean Dillard.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 11:00 am at Sumter Cemetery with Rev. Steve Miller officiating.  Full military honors will be rendered by the Shaw AFB Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, on Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 10:00-10:45 am at Bullock Funeral Home.
