Sumter, SC …. James Albert McPhail, Jr.,70, beloved husband of the late Kathryn Marie Rogers McPhail, died on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at his residence.
Born in Offutt AFB, NE, he was the son of the late, James Albert McPhail, SR. and Betty June McDonald McPhail. James graduated from Edmunds High School in 1969. He worked in several industrial plants including Harvin Packaging Co. and then found his home at International Paper where he retired after more than 30 years of service. James was a volunteer fireman and served his community out of the Bethel Station #13. He was a loyal supporter of Lakewood High School softball for many years and was a longtime member of Lakewood Baptist Church. He was a loving and supportive husband to his forever love, Kathryn, for over 45 years until her death in 2021. His true joy in life came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a very loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by; two sons, James Albert McPhail, III and his wife Crystal of Knoxville, TN and Christopher McPhail and his wife Melissa of Sumter; two daughters, Katelyn McPhail and Taylor McPhail, both of Sumter; one sister, Martha McPhail Thomson and her husband Chris of Westtown, NY and nine grandchildren, Dakota, Mason, Haley, Jodi, Morgan, Nathan, Dylan, Shelby and Declan and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition, to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Leroy McPhail and George Wayne McPhail.
Services will be private.
