Wedgefield, SC …. James Michael Yates, age 72, beloved husband of 40 years to Brenda Carol Yates, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at his residence.
Born in Sumter, SC, he was the son of the late James P. Yates and Ernestine Barwick Yates. Michael and his family attended Northside Baptist Church for many years. Along with his business partner, Steve Windham, he co-founded and operated Pipeline Supply and later purchased Jet-Vac of Sumter. His personality was one that was uplifting, caring and fun. He lived daylight to the fullest. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the Sumter Wateree Hunt Club. Michael was a very kind and generous man and was always giving to others. We rejoice in a good life of 72 years and a legacy of love and wonderful memories from one that loved the Lord, his family, his friends and all who were fortunate to know him. He will be remembered as a very loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving in addition to his wife Brenda are, a daughter, Erin P. Yates of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Dianne Y. Jennings and her husband Harold of Reidsville, NC, and Elaine Yates of Sumter, SC; four nieces and a nephew.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a nephew.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at 2:00 pm in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Bennie Barwick and the Rev. Kenny Barwick officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Broome, Michael Earnhardt, John Harvin, Scooter James, Frank Moses, Charlie Northcutt, Alton Parnell, John Parnell, Whit Parnell, Lathan Roddey, Michael Speigel, and Steve Windham.
