Jewel Christine (Richardson) Mefford

Sumter, SC…Jewel Christine Richardson Mefford, age 88, died on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born on April 28, 1932 in Cookeville, TN, she was the daughter of the late Merlin Frank Richardson and Emma Jane York Richardson. Ms. Mefford graduated from Cosmetology School. She was very caring and loved children. Throughout her lifetime she fostered fifteen children and helped raise her own grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, word puzzles and gardening. She knitted a special blanket for each of her grandchildren when they were born. Ms. Mefford attended Wise Drive Baptist Church with her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Surviving are: three sons, George Mefford and his wife Nancy of Sumter, John Mefford of Apex, NC, and James Mefford and his wife Janesse of Sumter; one daughter, Brenda Infinger and her life partner Brad Dollar of Manning; six grandchildren, Tara Edmunds, Emory “Chip" Infinger, Brenden Mefford, Tia Mefford, Stacy Gerbode, and Julieann Brooke Mefford; two step grandchildren, Ericka and Jester; seven great grandchildren, Lilli, Coral, Jewel, Randy, Collins, Christian, and Lily; and four step great grandchildren, Davis, Savannah, Hunter and Nathaniel.

A funeral service will held on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 4:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy McDonald officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 3:00-4:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Bullock Funeral Home.
