Powdersville, SC…….. Marion Lillian Buckland Pritchett, age 85, widow of Harry Crawford Pritchett, died on Friday, August 25th, 2023, at Oakview Park Senior Living.
Ms. Pritchett was born in 1937 in Washington, DC, a daughter of the late Virgil Buckland and Lorraine Harris Buckland. She grew up in Seat Pleasant Maryland, the second of eight children. Her siblings called her "Sissy" a nickname that has stuck to this day. After graduating from high school, she took a job as a bookkeeper for the Shoram Hotel in Washington DC. It was while working there that she met Hank Pritchett at a Boy Meets Girl dance in 1962. Family rumor has it that she had a cold that day and didn't want to attend the event but her parents insisted she go. It would prove to be a life changing decision. After a short courtship, she and Hank were married in February 1963. They would go on to have three children-Kathy, Harry and Pam. Hank worked as an engineer for NASA and Marion stayed home with the children. Marion loved to sew and would often sew new clothes for her children. She also loved playing board games with her family, with Scrabble being her favorite. When her husband retired in 1990, they moved to Sumter SC, where she remained a formidable opponent in the word game, with her now adult children struggling to beat her. She and Hank enjoyed their empty nest and often took trips to the beach and the mountains. When they were not traveling, they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, shopping, swimming in their backyard pool and watching The Grand Ole Opry every Saturday night. Sadly, Hank passed away in 2007 and Marion lived alone in Sumter until moving to Oakview Park in May 2019. She loved joining in the activities there and going on outings.
