Horatio, SC …. Mary Alice Blanding Miller, age 72, beloved wife of the late Matthew Tim Miller, Sr., passed to her heavenly home on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Prisma Health Toumey.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Hattie Blanding and the late Lizzy Brown Singleton. Mary was a member of the graduating class of 1967 at Ebenezer High School. She was a lifelong member of Willow Grove AME Church where she served on the Missionary Board, Stewardess Board and with the D & D Singers Mary was the head cook at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Camden for many years. She was known as a very strong woman and was not afraid to speak her mind. She loved to cook, but her true joy in life came from spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are; one son, Matthew Rilo Miller, Jr. and his wife, Lavonya of Sumter; one daughter, Keisha Miller McCoy and her husband Isaac of Rembert; one special sister and caregiver, Kimberly Blanding of Sumter and four additional sisters, Delores Benton Maynor and her husband Wilbert of Sylvania, GA, Vivian Beamer and her husband Donald of Charlotte, NC, Sandra Blanding of Huntsville, AL and Miranda Evans and her husband Clero of Columbia; five beautiful granddaughters, Jazmin McCoy, which was her pride and joy, Jamiya McCoy, Peyton Dease, Madisyn Miller, and Londyn Miller; two bonus grandchildren, Jamal McCoy and Aliyah Hammett; a godson, Xavier Platt; a goddaughter, Megan Miller; a special cousin, who was like a daughter and sister, Lisi Platt and her husband Arnold of Herndon, VA; two special sister-in-laws, Janie Murray and Curlie Waiters and four additional sisters-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; three best friends, Christine Miller, Tempie Pinckney and Leola Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by, a brother, Matthew Singleton and a sister, Ernestine Richardson.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 1:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wallace Preston officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Willow Grove AME Church Cemetery, Horatio, SC.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from 3:00-5:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
