Sumter, SC ……..Norajane Rumph Throckmorton, 88 years young of Sumter, South Carolina, received Promotion to Glory on 13 March 2021. She was born on July 25, 1932 to her parents Scott Winfield Rumph and Olive Williams Rumph.
A brother Scott W. Rumph, Jr. and a nephew Edwin Broadwell Rumph and her husband Colonel (ret) Elbert S. Throckmorton, preceded her in Promotion to glory.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen L. Throckmorton, of Sumter, South Carolina, a niece, Emily Rumph Bourgeois of Charlotte, North Carolina and two nephews, Scott W. Rumph, III of Sumter, South Carolina and Robert M. Rumph of Garden City, South Carolina. Also surviving are several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Norajane graduated from Salem Academy with the Class of 1950, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and graduated from Appalachian State University in North Carolina with a BS in Mathematics. Before going to Appalachian State, she studied voice under Art Windsor at University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
She was employed by Sumter Petroleum Company for a number of years and owned The Back Door on Broad Street for several years.
Norajane attended Mayesville Presbyterian Church of Mayesville, South Carolina and was a member of their choir.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 11:00am at Sumter Cemetery.
