Manning, SC…Peggy Creighton King, age 89, beloved wife of 61 years to the late James Ellerbe King, Sr., died on Monday, June 28, 2021 at her residence.
Born in Barnwell on December 6, 1931, Peggy Creighton King was the daughter of the late Thomas Dallis and Louise Hill Creighton. God granted her 89 years of life presiding in Manning, SC most of that time. Peggy passed away peacefully during her sleep at her son's residence on June 28, 2021. She was a loving Mother, Friend to All and always concerned about others before herself. She battled and won many challenges with her health through her faith in God. During her college time at Columbia College she did not let her health issues hold her back and completed her coursework successfully. She was a very proud person and never wanted to be looked at differently with the numerous health issues she endured. She always put others before herself and had a kind loving spirit that captured others to share in her life.
She worked at DuPont until she met the love of her life, her husband, James Ellebre King Sr. She moved to Manning and shared 61 years by his side. She took care of all the paperwork for her husband's Cotton business, Century 21 real estate office, John Deer Tractor Business and still found time for fellowship with the ladies of her church as well as the women's bridge club. Her strong faith guided her through life and in her last days enjoyed her Friend /Bible Study Partner/ Caregiver Ella Dozier and Mary Brand.
She is survived by her son, William (Ralph) King, an estranged adopted son James Ellebre King Jr., niece Belinda Creighton Finley of Greenville, and nephew's wife Janet Morris Creighton of Snelling. Three grandchildren, James Ellebre King III, Kendall Walker King, and Robert Cannon King.
She was predeceased by her husband James Ellebre King, Sr., her brother Thomas Dallis Creighton III, and her nephew Thomas Dallas Creighton, IV.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Manning Cemetery.
