Sumter, SC…Richard Charles Springett, age 83, beloved husband of the late
Marjorie Bell Springett, died on Friday, September 15, 2023, at his residence.
Born in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary Feeley Springett. Raised in Rochester, Richard was an excellent athlete, named MVP of his State Championship high school basketball team. After graduating, Richard enlisted in the US Air Force where he served over 21 years and retired in 1982 as a MSGT. Richard was a great man who always give and did for others. He was an avid golfer and loved the outdoors. He will be remembered as a very loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by; two sons, Mark F. Springett (Mona) of Jacksonville, FL, and Matthew James Springett (Teresa) of Camden, SC; two daughters, Shelli A. Mayhew of Dalzell, and Mary Beth Ruffin (William “Pint”) of Sumter; one sister, Florence “Twink” Brah of Milwaukee, WI; his former wife, Virginia A. Springett; seven grandchildren; Marcus and Adrian “AJ” Ruffin, John and Jeremy (Hannah) Mayhew, Sean Sprignett (Rachel), Travis Boone, and April Boone Lawrence; nine great grandchildren, Alijah J. and Mattison B. Ruffin, Lala Myrick, Taytay and Q.J. Lawrence, Maya Holiday, MacKenzie Springett, Quincy and Jihana Boone, and caregiver, Marian Stuckey.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 12:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. The interment will follow the service in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00 pm with full military honors.
