Sumter, SC…Robert C. “Bob” DuBose, age 89, beloved husband of 69 years to Iris Atkinson DuBose, died on Friday, September 24, 2021 at his residence.
Born in Johnsonville and raised in Alcolu, he was the son of the late Jarvis A. DuBose and Alma Clark DuBose. Mr. DuBose served in the US Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. While on active duty, he served in all seven Continents of the World. In addition, he also served in the National Guard for three years. Mr. DuBose was the owner of S and D Auto Sales and Body Shop in Sumter for twenty-two years. He truly loved his God, Country, and Family. He loved spending time with his family, and he enjoyed travelling, fishing, Atlanta Braves Baseball, NASCAR, and old cars. Mr. DuBose was a member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife Iris of Sumter, he is survived by his daughter, Sandra D. Floyd and her husband Randy of Dalzell; two sisters, Jean Hodge and her husband Benny of Sumter, and Mary Griffin of Pinewood; four grandchildren, Samantha Suffoletta - Maierle Abrams and her husband Steven, Jason Suffoletta and his fiancée, Stephanie Rath, Rhonda Floyd Smith and her husband Jody, and Amanda Floyd Martin and her husband, Daniel; six great grandchildren, Robert Maierle, Adam Maierle, Randa Smith, Braven Smith, Genevieve Smith, and Garrett Whiten Martin, two faithful friends, Zane Bell and Ken Deese, and his faithful canine companion Precious.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and a son-in-law, Sebastian “Sam” Suffoletta.
Private services were held for the family.
