Robert Hula Smith

Sumter, SC ….. Robert Hula Smith, age 67, beloved husband of 34 years to Deborah “Debbie” Gainey Smith, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at his residence.

Born in Marlboro County, SC, he was the son of the late Austin Lorine “Smitty” Smith and Dorothy Tune Smith.  Robert worked for over 40 years with EMS in South Carolina.  He enjoyed fishing the outdoors and going to the beach.  His true joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Debbie, he is survived by; two sons, Eric Stubbs and Freddie Smith, both of Sumter; a daughter, Charlotte Hamilton and her husband John of Sumter; a brother, Al Smith, Jr. of Kettering, OH and five grandchildren, Addison Smith, Emma Stubbs, Andrew Hamilton, Kinley Smith and Reagan Smith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Camilla Antoniel.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Westmoreland officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 10:00-11:00 am and other times at the residence.
