Sumter, SC …. Ruth Verna Harmon Towler, age 78, died on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at her residence.
Born in Charleston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Allen Franklin Harmon and Ruth Bradwell Harmon. Verna loved to travel and went on many crusies. She was a faithful member of her self-named “Old Folks Gang” that met every Tuesday and Thursday for lunch at different restaurants in the Sumter community. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, partner, sister, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her life partner, William H. “Bill” Smith, Jr.; one son, Joseph Delgod Morris, III and his wife Melanie of James Island, SC; two daughters, Robin Morris Robertson and her husband Chuck of James Island, SC and Jennifer Morris Baker and her fiancée Chad Feagin of Cades, SC; one sister, Mary Harmon O’Rander of James Island, SC; four grandchildren, Jessica Arcalas, Devin A. Barton, Hannah B. Hanna and Joseph “JoJo” Delgod Morris, IV and four great grandchildren, Austin Nash, Layton C. Barton, Nora Cameron Hanna and Ivy Ruth Hanna.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by; her first husband, Joseph Delgod Morris, Jr; two brothers, Joseph Freddi Harmon, Sr. and Edward C. Harmon and two sisters, Virginia Harmon Linton and Vivian Harmon Tisdale.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 11:00 am at First Church of God with the Rev. Ron Bower Officiating.
A reception will be held at the conclusion of the service in the church fellowship hall.
