Sumter, SC…..Elaine Lentine (Lane) 75, passed away at her home on January 13,2023. She was the wife of the late Michael J. Lentine. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Janie Leonhardt (Dennis), and her brother Jeffrey Smith (Sue), of Gowensville two stepsons, Michael J. Lentine Jr. of Seneca and John R. Lentine, of Pelzer; three stepdaughters: Shirley L. Chandler of Sumter, Carmel L. Clements of Concord, NC, and Karyn Powell of Greenville; nine grandchildren : Aaron Crow (Jaylee), Sarah Hales (Kevin), Katie Chandler (Steve) Joseph Clements, Emily Chandler, Arash), John Clements, Eli Powell, Luke Powell, Jesse Powell; five great grandchildren, and one aunt, Alice Turner.

Elaine grew up in the Gowensville Community of Northern Greenville County. She was the daughter of Bruce and Hattie Oliver Smith. She received her B.A. Degree from Limestone College and her M.A.Degree from the University of South Carolina in Art Education. She was employed as an Art Teacher and Department Head at Sumter High School until her retirement.

She enjoyed reading, creating her own drawings and paintings, tending flowers in her yard, bird watching, playing with her cats, and spending time with family and friends.

Elaine was predeceased by her brother, Steve Smith and stepdaughter, Judy McMahon.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 2:00PM at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
