Sigrid (Saffran) Monnett

Dalzell, SC… Sigrid Saffran Monnett, age 78, beloved wife of 45 years to James Franklin Monnett, died on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at her residence.

Born in Barth, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Ludwig Heinrich Saffran and Ilse Hildegard Elisabeth Schlieker.  After graduating college in Germany, Sigrid began her teaching career.  She taught in the German school system for over 20 years and continued her teaching career once she moved to the United States.  She taught locally at Thomas Sumter Academy and Sumter Catholic School as well as Cardinal Newman Academy in Columbia.  Sigrid was an outstanding military spouse, serving the needs of her husband’s troops at each base that they were stationed.  She loved going to the beach as well as working in her flower garden and baking for her family.  Her true joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving to cherish her memory are, her husband Jim; a son, Mikel Monnett and his wife Tara Gidwani of Columbus, OH; four daughters, Gabriele Monnett Farjadi and her husband Sean of Oakton, VA, Robin Prothro of Columbus, OH, Jami Casto and her husband William, of Grove City, OH, and Stephanie Chamberlin and her husband Kedric of Charleston,, SC; a sister, Irene Obst of Frankfurt, Germany; four grandchildren, Christopher Prothro, Tatjana Farjadi, Alexander Farjadi, and Olivia Chamberlin, and one great grandchild, Justice Prothro.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Karl-Heinz Saffran.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 12:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Mark Traeger officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 11:00-12:00 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Bullock Funeral Home.
