Stanley Salter III Obituary

 

Sumter, SC … Stanley Alexander Salter, III, age 83, beloved husband of 15 years to Marilyn McLeod Salter, died on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Stanley Alexander Salter, II and the late Katherine Ottesen Salter.  Stanley was a pilot in the US Air Force and served in Vietnam.  He was a highly decorated officer who was awarded many medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross.  He retired at Shaw AFB as a Colonel after over 26 years of service.  Stanley was a very active member of St. James Lutheran Church where he served in numerous capacities.  He was a avid skeet shooter and a loyal Carolina Gamecocks fan.  He will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Sumter; a son, Stanley A. Salter and his wife Debra of MS.; a daughter Laura Salter Summers and her husband Jimmy of Rock Hill, three stepdaughters, Pamela Johns(Edward), Stacy Winn(Kevin) and Laura Beth Farmer(Tommy); five grandchildren, Sarah Salter, Philipp Summers and his wife Elyse, Rachael DeYoung and her husband Dylan, Jack Summers and Alex Summers, and 4 great grandchildren, Stanley, C.J., Dawson and Wade.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Philipp Salter and a sister, Elizabeth Hallaran.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 3:00 pm at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Keith Getz officiating.  Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, from 2:00-3:00 pm at St. James Lutheran Church.
