Sumter, SC… Steven Albert Capinas, age 88, beloved husband of 65 years to Ruth Marie Bernardelli Capinas, died on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at his resicdence
Born in Wilkes Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen Capinas and Anelia Woronka Capinas. After graduating from Collingswood High School in New Jersey, Steven attended Franklin and Marshall College and graduated from the University of Nebraska. He served in the United States Air Force and retired after 21 years as a Lt. Colonel. Steven then went to work for Crescent Tool in Sumter, SC where he retired after 20 years as their director of purchasing. He served as a past president of both the Sumter Personnel Association and the Sumter Purchasing Association. He was inducted in the Collingswood High School Athletic Hall of Fame, twice, for his accomplishments in both football and baseball. He served as a member of the St. Francis School Board and as an avid golfer; he organized many charitable golf tournaments. He also worked with several other charitable organizations throughout his life in the Sumter community. As a long and faithful member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Steven was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by: two sons, Gregory Charles Capinas and his wife Mary Margaret of Ellijay, GA and Bradley Stephen Capinas and his wife Laura of Geyserville, CA; one daughter, Janice Capinas Warners of Brookhaven, GA; two sisters, Doris Sherwin of Mt. Holly, NJ and Karen Drozd of Plymouth Township, PA; five grandchildren, Matthew Capinas and his wife Halie, Megan Capinas, Alexandre Warners, Sophie Warners and Kyler Capinas and two great grandchildren, Grayson Capinas and Bratton Capinas.
Steven is preceded in death by; a son, Matthew Steven Capinas; a brother, Eugene Capinas and a sister, Florence Pederson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment will follow the mass in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00–11:00 am at St. Anne Catholic Church.
