Sumter, SC…Tiny L. Bishop, a former Child Care Teacher, age 83, and wife of Harry I. Bishop, Air Force Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) and former owner of Harry’s Tackle Box in Sumter, died April 27, 2020 at home.
Born September 2, 1936 in Tampa, Florida, She was the daughter of the late John and Lorena Ellison. As the last of fourteen children, and with the death of her mother at childbirth, Mrs. Bishop had a pleasant but difficult childhood. After marriage to her husband, Harry I. Bishop, his various military assignments took them to many parts of the world. Throughout this period, she was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, and a doting grandmother. As a military wife, she worked hard to help support her husband’s Air Force career and became the mainstay of the family during his periods of remote assignments.
Mrs. Bishop attended school in Tampa, Florida and was a member of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. A former child care teacher, she loved children. She was also very active in numerous community activities and military support groups, including both the SC Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), State and District Ladies Auxiliaries. She was a life member and past Senior Vice President of the Sumter County Veterans of Foreign Wars ladies Auxiliary, Post 3034; and also a past member of the Sumter Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, No. 855. When active, she loved to walk 3 or 4 miles at the Mall each day.
