Violet Lois (Whinery) Dobbs

Sumter, SC…Violet Lois Whinery Dobbs, age 91, beloved wife of the late Leo Lawrence Dobbs, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Covenant Place of Sumter.

Born in Evansville, AR, she was the daughter of the late Edward Columbus Whinery and Lucy Etta Campbell Whinery.  Violet was a longtime member of Alice Drive Baptist Church.  She was a very faithful and Godly Christian woman who loved her family and her church dearly.  She was always welcoming and hospitable to all those that she met.  Violet loved her flowers, gardening, reading, and cooking for others.  Her true joy in life came from her family.  She will be remembered as a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend.

She is survived by; one son, Darrell L. Dobbs, and his wife Marion of Sumter; two daughters, Connie A. Mitchell & her husband Mark of Guyton, GA, and Brenda S. Sprankle and her husband Herb of Sumter; six grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Lee Whinery, Edward Junior Whinery, and Donald Eugene Whinery and four sisters, Betty Whinery, Gwytha Mae Ferris, Bonnie Belle Gosser, and Luella Murrell Fulmer.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 12:00 pm in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with Rev. Greg Pressley Officiating. 

Pallbearers will be Austin Duchaine, Josh Enloe, Brian Norman, Ashton Sturgess, Leo Sturgess, Caleb Ziel, Graham Ziel, Nolan Ziel, and Scott Ziel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steven L. Dobbs and Braydon Enloe.
