William Arthur Hicks, Jr.

Sumter, SC…William Arthur Hicks, Jr., age 59, died on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at McLeod Health Clarendon. 

Born in Anchorage, Alaska, he was a son of Sandra Gail Herndon Hicks and the late William Arthur Hicks Sr.  

Mr. Hicks served his country in the United States Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant after 26 years of service as a Ground Radio Technician deploying multiple times in support of the Gulf War, Desert Storm, and humanitarian operations. He was most recently a contractor with Poinsett Bombing and Target Range as a radar technician. Mr. Hicks enjoyed many things in life, including spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, listening to live music, the blues, motorcycles and making Cajun food while supporting the Saints, but what he loved most was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  

Surviving are his mother, Sandra Gail Hicks of Sumter; two sons, Justin Dean Hicks of Columbia and Travis John Hicks and his wife Afton of Sumter; two grandchildren, William and Landon Hicks both of Sumter; and one brother, Wesley Ardell Hicks and his wife Kathie of Greenwood. 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lenora Clemens. 

A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 am -12:00 pm on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Bullock Funeral Home. Followed with full military honors at 12:00 pm.
