Willis Gerald "Bill" Skroch

Sumter, SC…Major (RET) Willis Gerald “Bill” Skroch, age 93, beloved husband of six years to Diana Jones Skroch, died on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his residence.

Born in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of the late Adam Andrew Skroch and Ruth Elice Knight Skroch.  After graduating high school, Bill attended Woodbury College and graduated in 1949.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 where he served in the Korean War and had multiple foreign assignments including France, Germany, and Japan.  He was a pilot of the RF-4C fighter jet and was eventually stationed at Shaw AFB where he would retire as a Major after over 25 years of service.  Bill would eventually become a member of the Order of Daedalains at Shaw AFB.  While attending high school in CA, Bill, known then as Casey, was a classmate of Diana Jones.  They would meet many years later at a class reunion where they started a new relationship and eventually got married. 

In addition to his wife Diana, he is survived by a brother, Richard Skroch of Nevada; a sister, Patricia Holmes and her husband Richard of MO; two stepsons, Todd Sherick and his wife Terry, and Scott Sherick and his wife Christina, all of CA; one stepdaughter, Dana Bennett, and her husband Bruce of CA; Six grandchildren; a best friend, Ray Tiffault of Sumter and Steve Tate of Columbia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Ilean Skroch, and a longtime companion, Shirley Tate.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Brown Officiating.
