John Michael Maslanko

Sumter, SC…John Michael Maslanko, age 76, beloved husband of Karen Elaine Harrell Maslanko, died on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Prisma Health Richland

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Steven Maslanko and Maria Pipoly Maslanko. Mr. Maslansko retired from the US Air Force and was a life member of the Sumter VFW Post 3034. He enjoyed traveling and trying new foods and beverages as well as bowling and playing darts. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife Karen are two sons, Otis “Buck” McLeod  (Rhonda) of Barnwell, and David Lackey of Michigan; three daughters, Liz Belsole, Debra Nowakowski (Robert), Dale Rygalski (Tom) all of Sumter; two step children, Kristal Johnson (Scott Connelly) of Reevesille and Rocky Thornhill (Angie) of Sumter; one son-in-law, Wesley McCathern of Sumter and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Hudson McLeod Maslanko, daughter, Louise McCathern, grandson, Jason McCathern and one son-in-law, Randy Galloway.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 3:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Sumter Cemetery with full military honors.

The grandsons will serve as the pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
