Merritt Swinney Obituary

Lexington, SC…Merritt Junior Swinney, age 88, beloved husband of forty three years to the late Marlene Ann Pelletier Swinney, died on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Oak Leaf Assisted Living Home.

Born in Nebraska City, NE, he was the son of the late Merritt and Hazel Swinney. Mr. Swinney served in the US Air Force and retired after twenty years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel. While on active duty, he served in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he went on to work as a Revenue Office with the Internal Revenue Service and retired again after twenty years of service. Mr. Swinney enjoyed playing golf, working in his yard and was an avid runner for most of his life.

Surviving are: one son, Matthew A. Swinney and his wife Melinda of Columbia, SC; one daughter, Midge A. Swinney of Chattanooga, TN; two grandchildren, Virginia Hayley Keever and Samantha Jane Keever; and one great grandchild, Tucker Jameson Sykes.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

A private graveside service will be held in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
