Sumter, SC ….. Adele Bowman Brunson, age 97, beloved wife of 32 years to the late William Ervin Brunson III, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by family.
Born in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Kennedy Bowman and Caroline Richardson Bowman and was raised in Sumter, SC, from the age of two. Adele was an avid bridge player and would gather with her bridge buddies as often as possible. She enjoyed so many dear and life-long friends, growing up together from an early childhood in Sumter, SC. Adele was a dedicated supporter of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind, the American Red Cross, and several other charities. A strong woman of faith, she was a lifelong member of the Church of the Holy Comforter. She loved her church and all of her church family. She was involved in the church in many capacities throughout her life; however, she was heavily involved in the church’s breakfast Ministry.
Surviving to cherish her memory are four children: Rebecca B. Prosser, Deborah B. Richardson and husband Rick, Adele B. Carter, William Ervin Brunson, IV; four grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Prosser, Richard D. Richardson, III, Kristin Adele Carter, and Erin L. Ayers; two great grandchildren; Eleanora R. Prosser and Isabella E. Ayers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Anthony K. Bowman, Jr., a son-in-law, Daniel W. Prosser, and two very special aunts, Eleanora S. Richardson and Anne S. Richardson.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 11:00 am at Church of the Holy Comforter with Ft. David Booman officiating. The family will receive people following the service in the church fellowship hall.
A private interment will follow the reception at Sumter Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
