Dalzell, SC .......... Atchara “Angie” Sooksawasdi, age 75, beloved wife of 51 years to Edward B. Matter, died on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Born in Nakhonsawan, Thailand, she was the daughter of the late Charoen and Sungvan Sooksawasdi. Atchara dedicated over 25 years of service to the Shaw AFB Dining Facility, where she worked with unwavering dedication from 1985 until her retirement in 2011. Throughout her career, she touched the lives of many, always with a smile and a generous spirit. Always treating the Airman like they were her own children.
An active and faithful member of Shaw Heights Baptist Church, Atchara was deeply involved in the community. She was a proud member of the Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC) and took great joy in volunteering and participating in the Shaw AFB International Potluck Dinners and as a Thai Dancer for the events from 1991 to 2009. Her kindness and selflessness were felt by all who knew her.
In her free time, Atchara found joy in crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family. A gifted cook, she was known for her culinary masterpieces—egg rolls, laab, bamboo curry, green bean curry, pad-thai, beef salad, and papaya salad were family favorites that brought everyone together. But above all, she cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren, whose laughter and love brought her the greatest joy. She will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Shawn T. Matter of Las Vegas, NV; her daughter, Melissa J. Matter Rogers and husband Lewis W. Rogers III; eight grandchildren, Darien Collins, Jordan Ripple, Sierra Matter, Stellan Matter, Mariah Matter, Madison Rogers, Chelsey Rogers, and Cassidy Rogers, and three great-grandchildren, Cove, Parker, and Shiloh.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Uthai Sooksawasdi, one brother, and three sisters.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home
Memorials can be made in her memory to Shaw Heights Baptist Church and the SPCA.
