Barbara Ann Alford

Sumter, SC………………. Barbara Ann Alford, age 83, widow of the late Raymond Turner Alford, died on Thursday, August 20th, 2026, at MUSC Health Black River Medical Center.

Ms. Alford was born in Rockingham, NC, a daughter of the late Thurman Coward, Sr. and Lottie Fay Cox.

Survivors are: Two brothers, Thurman Coward, Sr. and his wife Myrtle of Salem, SC and John Walter Coward, Sr and his wife Hilda of Sumter, SC; and a special longtime friend, Sandra Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Anthony Russell Alford.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 25th, 2026, at 11:00am at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Dr., Sumter, SC 29150.
