Barbara Jane (Vandewalker) Smith

Sumter, SC…Barbara Jane Vandewalker Smith, age 73, beloved wife of the late Gordon Earl Smith, died on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at her residence.

Born in West Carthage, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lester Vandewalker and Francis Marie Edwards Vandewalker. Mrs. Smith worked in the healthcare industry for many years. She was active with the Jeep Club and enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Smith attended Hickory Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are: three children, Dean Ronald Smith, Rebecca Mainey and her husband Robert, and Timothy Ryon Smith all of Sumter; four grandchildren, Logan Smith, Connor Smith, Ayla Smith, and Brayden Mainey; three great grandchildren, Emerson Smith, Lincoln Smith, and Theodore Smith; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Gordon Earl Smith, Jr., and Theodore James Smith; two grandchildren, Mia and Makale Mainey; and three brothers, Lester “Bud” Vandewalker, Jr., Robert Vandewalker, and Ronald Vandewalker.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 4:00 pm at the Hickory Road Baptist Church.
