Sumter, SC …. Billy Rudolph Brown, Age 89, beloved husband of Sharan Elder Brown, died on Monday, June 9, 2025, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC.
Born in Spartanburg County, SC, Billy was the son of the late Aurther Cephus Brown and Kathleen Wood Brown. After high school, Billy enlisted in the US Navy and then transitioned into the US Air Force. Altogether, he served over 21 years, retiring in 1974 at the rank of MSgt. After his career in the military, Billy worked as an auto mechanic and built his own business that is still in operation today. He was a member of the Hillcrest Masonic Lodge #397, 33rd degree of the Scottish Rites, the MRMA club, the DAV and was an active Shriner. Billy spent a lot of time raising money to support the Shriners Children’s Hospital and many other worthy charitable organizations. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Billy was a devoted family man and will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharan; two sons, Mark Brown and his wife Betty of Sumter, and Tim Brown of Lyman, SC; a daughter, Lisa Hubbard and her husband William of Florence, SC; nine grandchildren, Shanna, April, Kyle, Joshua, Wayne, Lee, Jonathan, Justin, and Ryan, and fourteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Lee Collins Brown, three sisters, Ruby Davis, Edith Stephens, and Jean Page, and three brothers, A.C. Brown, Jimmy Brown, and Ted Brown.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 12:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Donald Hayes officiating. The interment will follow the service at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, at 2:00 pm with full military honors.
