Christos Dimitriadis Obituary

Sumter, SC……….. Christos Dimitriadis, age 78, beloved husband of 53 years to Georgia Ouzounidis Dimitriadis, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

Mr. Dimitriadis was born in Pentaplatanon, Pella, Greece, the son of the late Georgios Dimitriadis and Efrosene Tokmakidis. Chris was a simple man who did not fear hard work. From the moment he left Greece in 1968, embarking on an adventure to a new country, he faced challenges with a courage and fearlessness that defined his character. Trained as a shoemaker, in the old country, he settled in the New England area to launch his new career. This was short lived as the shoe industry left for oversees. This was not a problem for Chris as he quickly learned new skills as a sub-contractor, handyman and eventually landlord.  He even worked at a bread factory together with his wife, Georgia. Chris never worried about what others thought; he kept to himself, content with who he was and the life he built. His resilience, along with the unwavering support of his dedicated family, allowed him to eventually relocate to South Carolina and successfully build, own, and operate Georgios, a beloved establishment in Sumter that has been cherished for almost five decades.  His unselfishness and humility was never more evident than the little known fact that he also was the seed for several other family members to launch their own entrepreneurial spirit in the form of pizza salons, restaurants and diners.

Chris was deeply caring and loved his family fiercely, finding his greatest joy in the moments he spent with them. He took immense pleasure in working outside on various projects, often proudly showing off his creations to anyone who would listen. His sense of humor was a delight to all who knew him, even amusing total strangers with his wit. His favorite pastime was playing Tavli - a game he played with everyone regardless of their skill level. He has the patience to teach anyone who wanted to learn - often making the moves for the “experts“if they took too long to think.

Every summer, Chris found peace and happiness traveling back to Greece, where he spent treasured time with his grandchildren, creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever. May his legacy and his memory be eternal!

Surviving in addition to his wife are: One son, James “Jimmy” Dimitriadis and his wife Cynthia of Sumter, SC; One daughter, Effie Dounis and her husband Dimitrios of Denver, NC; One brother, John Dimitriadis and his wife Ioulia of Giannitsa, Greece; One sister, Marianthie Foulidos of Giannitsa, Greece; Four grandchildren, Vasilios, Christina, Alexandra, and Christos; One great grandchild, Dimitrios; and numerous nieces and nephews, and a great-grand niece, Eleni.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Panagotis and Efthemios Dimitriadis; and brothers in law Haralambos and Athansios Ouzounidis.
