Don Alvin Burchett, age 86, beloved husband of 65 years to Elena Alice Harnish Burchett, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at his residence.
Born in Vanlear, KY, he was the son of the late Jesse Henry Burchett and Norma Stambaugh Burchett. After high school, Don served his country proudly as a member of the Army National Guard and worked much of his life as a Class A Golf Professional. A strong man of Christian faith, Don loved God and served him through many different avenues. He was a member of the Gideons International as well as a faithful volunteer in prison ministry. Don attended Bethesda Church of God and was actively involved in evangelistic ministry up until his death. His true joy in life came from his faith in God and spending time with his family. He was married to his high school sweetheart and will be remembered as a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Elena, he is survived by five children: Donald Jesse Burchett and his wife Tammy of Sumter, Glenn Keith Burchett and his wife Jessica of Lexington, SC, Bruce Alan Burchett and his wife Deborah of Sumter, Lisa Burchett Elliott and her husband Phillip, of Sumter, and David Anthony Burchett and his wife Lisa of Sumter; ten grandchildren, Bruce Burchett, Jr. and his wife Whitney, John Burchett, Forrest Burchett and his wife Leanne, Nathaniel Burchett and his fiancée Jeane, Matthew Burchett and his wife Kathryn, Natalie Burchett, Kayla Burchett, Rachel Elliott Motes and her husband Clark, Emma Elliott, and Lauren Burchett, and eight precious great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Shoemaker of Peebles, OH.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 11:00 – 12:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 12:00 pm in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. A private family interment will follow the service in Sumter Cemetery.
