Doris Cabrera Obituary

Sumter, SC…Doris J. Cabrera passed into Glory on September 1, 2019 at her daughter’s home. She was 99 years old. She served her God, her Country and her Family with dignity, honor and courage. She was devoted to all. Her service to God was during the course of her entire life whether in her hometown of Buhl, Idaho or in a war zone during WWII in France, North Africa or Korea. Doris was an officer and an Army nurse. She would meet her first husband, Oscar F. DeMeyere in Korea in 1948 where they were both stationed and soon were married. Many years later she would marry again in Arizona. Her second husband was Gustavo H. Cabrera. Her life was long and full of adventure. One of her gifts was keeping meticulous records of family and friends; her travels and theirs. She loved crafts, baking and good books all to be shared with others. Her alma maters were Buhl High School in Buhl, Idaho; St. Luke’s Hospital (now Rush Presbyterian) in Chicago, Illinois where she earned her RN license, and the United States Army.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Elsa Mae Fuller; Her son, Richard DeMeyere; Her sisters, Marjorie Shriver, Wilma Cox, Frances Markee, Marion Caron, June Pace and Her brother, Bruce Fuller.
