Eliza (Pinkney) Pearson

Eliza Joyce Pinkney Pearson, wife of Marion A. Pearson and daughter of the late Murray Pinkney, Sr. and Katie Smith Pinkney, was born in Sumter County, SC on July 6, 1931. She entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at her home.

Eliza attended Sumter County Schools as a child. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Morris College, Sumter SC and Masters in Education from Hampton University, Hampton, VA. She led a fulfilling career as an educator for 35 years teaching in the public school systems in Georgia, Michigan, Florida, and lastly in the Lee County School District in Bishopville, SC where she retired.

Eliza started her Christian journey at a young age joining Mt Olive A.M.E. Church, Woodrow SC, where she accepted Christ. She later joined St Luke A.M.E Church where she served in several ministries including Missionary Society, Usher Board, Trustee Board, Vacation Bible School Teacher and Sunday School Member.

In addition to her parents , she was preceded in death by six brothers Murray Pinkney Jr., Wille “Bill” Pinkney, Robert Washington, Charlie Washington, Johnny Washington, and Henry Pinkney; two sisters, Bessie Hawkins and Edna Washington; three sisters-in- law Alma B. Pinkney, Millie B. Pinkney and Janie Washington and one brother-in-law Med Hawkins.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 68 years Marion A. Pearson; one daughter Mironda Pearson; one granddaughter Isis Pearson; one sister Jacqui Pinkney (Jamie); one sister-in-law Janet Pinkney and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved and held dearly to her heart.

A memorial service will be held on October 16, 2021 at 1pm at St. Luke A.M.E. Church located at 2355 N St Paul Church Rd in Sumter, SC.
