Sumter, SC………….George Donald “Don” Cobb, age 71, passed away on Friday, April 3rd, 2026, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital following a brief illness.
Don was born on March 15, 1955, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late George D. and Lila T. Cobb. In 1977, he married his soulmate Gail Cobb, née Dennis. A lifelong resident of Sumter, Don developed a passion for scale models at a young age, perfecting his craft over many years. Later in life, his focus shifted to classic cars and, as his friends and family will attest, he loved talking about his fully restored 1970 Dodge Challenger. Don was also an avid animal lover. Together with Gail, they rescued numerous cats. He continued their rescue efforts after her death, adding several more cats and two dogs. Don spent his career as an environmental professional. Taking the lessons he had learned working for other people, Don started his own successful consulting firm in the mid 1990s. He ran this company for over 30 years until his retirement.
Survivors are: One son, Michael Cobb (Alison); One daughter, Misty Morris (Bo); one granddaughter, Emily Morris; one grandson, Dylan Smith, and dear family friends Jenny Cherni and Lisa Tye.
He was preceded in death by his father (George), his mother (Lila), his stepfather (Arden), his beloved wife (Gail), and his son-in-law Robert Alan Morris.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00am-1:00pm on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Bullock Funeral Home.
