George Tallent Obituary

Sumter, SC … George Thomas Tallent, SR., age 90, beloved husband of the late Ethel Grace Gladhill Tallent, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at National Healthcare of Sumter.

Born in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late James Chris Tallent and Bessie Victoria Coleman Tallent.  George was a proud member of the United States Air Force and served his country proudly in Vietnam.  He retired as a TSGT in 1980 after over 21 years of service.  He will be remembered as a very loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving to cherish his memory are two sons, Tom Tallent and his wife Patty of PA and Chris Tallent and his wife Debbie of Sumter; two daughters, Vickie Sherill and her husband Larry of Drakes Branch, VA and Trudy Hansen and her husband Eric of San Angelo, TX; a daughter in law, Pamela Baugh Tallent of Sumter; ten grandchildren, Candace, Jimmy, Tony,  Larry Jr., Christy, Michael, Jeremy, Trent, Jeffery and Justin and twenty-two great grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a son, John Alvin Tallent and a granddaughter, Tracy Tallent, and two brothers, Easley Tallent and Eslie Tallent.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
