James Odell McLeod

Sumter, SC…............ James Odell McLeod, age 92, beloved husband of the late Rosemarie Groth McLeod, died on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.

Mr. McLeod was born in St. Charles, SC, a son of the late Leroy Sampson McLeod and Lillian Boykin McLeod. He was retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sgt, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and received the John L. Hennessy Award for his Food Service excellence. He was a Shriner, a Mason and a member of the Bradford Springs Hunt Club, where his nickname was Mongoose. His grandchildren couldn’t say Mongoose so he became Money Goose affectionately to them. He was the best Happy Birthday singer and will be missed by his family and friends.

Survivors are: Two sons, Leroy McLeod and his fiancé Linda Shingara of Post Falls, Idaho, and Douglas O. McLeod of Sumter, SC; One daughter, Susan Wogman and her husband Mark of London, England; Two brothers, Ernest McLeod & Roger Brock; 8 grandchildren, Jerrad McLeod, Christine McLeod, Chad McLeod, Erica Freeman, Michele McLeod Fuller, Meghan McLeod, Kaitlyn McLeod, and Brittney Faoro; 7 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 67 years, one son, James W. McLeod, one sister, Mildred Ailene McLeod Cato Dowdrick, and a brother Bainard McLeod.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, July 8th, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Stines officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 7th, 2023 from 6-8pm at Bullock Funeral Home.
