Sumter, SC …. James Richard Selfridge, age 94, beloved husband to the late Irene Jackson Selfridge, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Pruitt Health Blythewood.
James “Jim” Selfridge was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, the beloved son of the late John Leonard Selfridge and the late Iantha “Bunny” Hair Selfridge. He proudly served over 20 years in the United States Air Force and retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a Korean Veteran. After his military career, Jim dedicated another two decades to Electrical Wholesalers, where he continued to showcase his skills and strong work ethic. He was a member of the Sumter First Church of the Nazarene.
A valued member of both Woodmen of the World and American Legion Post 15, Jim found joy in photography and was known for his exceptional talent as an electrician. Above all, he will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished friend. His kindness and dedication touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
James is survived by his sons, Richard L. Selfridge and his wife Tina of Columbia, and James Selfridge and his wife Hollie of Alabama; his daughters, Susan Selfridge Farmer of Alabama, and Kathy Selfridge Turner and her husband Keith of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Juanita Rabon of Sumter; a brother-in-law, H.F. Jackson and his wife, Meredith of Ft. Mill, SC; his grandchildren, Shaun Waddell and his wife Lindsay, Jamey Selfridge, Kaylee Selfridge, and Carly Selfridge; his great grandchildren, Taya Waddell and Rowan Waddell; numerous nieces and nephews; three step-grandchildren, thirteen step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great grandchild, and his beloved canine companion and best friend, Benji.
In addition to his wife and parents, James is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Gunsauls and brother-in-law, Bobby Rabon.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 3:00-5:00 pm at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the family home.
A funeral service will be held at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 am.
The interment will be held immediately following the service at Sumter Cemetery with full military honors.
