Sumter, SC…………………. James Albert Veal, Jr., age 79, beloved husband of 20 years to Linda Snyder Veal, died on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
Mr. Veal was born in Macon, GA, a son of the late James Albert Veal, Sr., and Benita Smith Veal. He played high school baseball & basketball for Lanier High School and graduated in 1963. He also played college baseball for Middle Georgia College and graduated in 1965 with an associate degree in arts, attended the University of Georgia (UGA), and attended Georgia College and graduated in 1971 with a bachelor’s in business administration. James was a member of the Dixie Southern Racing Pigeon Association; he had had a love for Pigeon racing since High School. He was also an avid Golfer his entire life, and was a member of Beach Creek Country Club, Sumter, South Carolina. He was employed for 38 + years with Westinghouse / Eaton Corporation with sales in Electrical Engineering. James enjoyed his yearly trips to Atlanta and Daytona for the NASCAR races. He always had a dog or cat companion by his side and loved his country music, especially George Strait. His dream through life was to own a Porsche, but always was met with a resounding No! He attended Oasis Church, loved spending time with his family, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors in addition to his wife are: One son, Todd Latimer Veal and his wife Jenny of Acworth, GA; Two stepdaughters, Heidi Coursey and her husband Billy, and Heather Collins, all of Sumter, SC; One brother, Anthony Mark Veal and his wife Valerie of Cumming, GA; One sister, Sheila V. Hall of Thomaston, GA; Four grandchildren, Dalton Coursey, Holdyn Coursey, Nolan Veal, and Jodi Coursey O’Connor and her husband Josh; Three great-grandchildren, Owen, Talen, and Sadie; Two nieces Katie Womble of Hawkinsville, GA, and Amelia Veal of Athens, GA; and One nephew, Chris Hall of Thomaston, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Bates McCutcheon.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, February 11th, 2024, at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Howell officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024, at 2:00pm at Riverside Cemetery, 1301 Riverside Dr., Macon, GA.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm, Sunday, February 11th, 2024, at Bullock Funeral Home.
