Sumter, SC…Joe Louis Disher, age 86, beloved husband of 59 years to Cecelia “Puggie” Early Disher, died on Friday, June 12, 2020 at his residence.
Born January 15, 1934 in Florence, SC, he was a son of the late Monroe W. Disher and Jane Norton Disher Irick. Louis worked for sixteen years as a salesman for Keisler-Harvin Poultry company. He owned and operated American Grocery for over 28 years before his retirement in 2002. He will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Puggie, he is survived by: a son, Joe Disher and his wife Stephanie of Sumter; two daughters, Brenda Pereira and her husband Tony of Sumter and Nina Matthews and her husband Robbie of Monroe, NC; nine grandchildren, Anthony Pereira and his wife Emily of Tryon, Joey Pereira, Charles Lee Pereira, Travis Disher, Dalton Brown, Drake Brown and Drew Brown, all of Sumter, Lane Matthews and his wife Mandie of Mt. Holly, NC and Jennifer Helms and her husband Brian of Monroe, NC; two great grandchildren, Cole Pereira and Hadley Pereira both of Tryon, NC and four special grandchildren, Allison McMickell, Lauren Kirven and her husband CJ, Jessie McCLoud and Tiffany Daniels.
He is predeceased by; three brothers, Harold Disher, Laurie Disher and Jimmie Disher and a granddaughter, Brittany Geddings.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 11:00 am at Bethesda Church of God. A private family interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 am, on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Bethesda Church of God and other times at the residence.
Pallbearers will be; Joey Duggan, David Horton, Rusty Daniels, Wallace Anderson, Jason Capell and Rev. Neil DuBose.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the Bethesda Learning Center, 2730 Broad St., Sumter, SC 29150.
